American Buddhist Seminary is a Buddhist temple community in West Sacramento rooted in Sri Lankan Buddhist tradition. Its religious life centers on ritual observance, collective devotion, and shared acts of merit, with ceremonies and festival observances guided by monks and supported by active lay participation. The temple marks major occasions such as Vesak Poya and commemorations connected to the introduction of Buddhism to Sri Lanka through prayer, visual offerings, communal gatherings, and pilgrimages. Its community practice also includes extended sacred undertakings, such as a six-month blessing ceremony for the temple property and followers, as well as memorial services and blessings in response to times of crisis. Across its observances, the temple is defined by reverence, ritual depth, and a deeply participatory spiritual culture.
