Berkeley Buddhist Vihara is a Sri Lankan Theravada Buddhist temple and religious nonprofit established in 2002. Serving Sri Lankans and other Buddhists across the greater Bay Area, it is sustained by resident monastic leadership and long-standing lay community support. The temple is guided by Venerable Kahataruppe Wimalaratana Thero, its Chief Incumbent and President, whose background includes monastic training, higher ordination, Buddhist scholarship, and teaching experience in Sri Lanka. The vihara reflects a disciplined, tradition-centered approach rooted in the continuity of Sri Lankan Buddhist monastic life and devotional practice.
