Black Bear Dojo is a traditional Okinawan martial arts school serving Rhode Island and southeastern Connecticut since 2008. Its instruction emphasizes disciplined practice, character development, and the cultural lineage of classical training, with direct ties to Okinawa and Japan. The dojo is identified as the only school in the southeastern Connecticut and Rhode Island area with Japanese government certification and direct lineage to Okinawa and Japan, and it serves as the East Coast Shibu for Reihokan Shorin-Ryu, reporting directly to Naonobu Ahagon, Hanshi, in Naha, Okinawa. Black Bear Dojo fosters an environment of compassion, dignity, precision, and technical rigor, supported by instructors with more than 100 years of combined martial arts training history and a fully functioning training space designed with safety in mind.
