B'nai Israel Synagogue in Council Bluffs is an active synagogue and living history museum focused on the Jewish experience in Eastern Nebraska and Western Iowa. Rooted in the region’s earliest organized Jewish community, it preserves and interprets this history through exhibits, interactive displays, learning centers, and spaces including the main sanctuary, rabbi’s study, and education classroom. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2007 under its original name, Chevra B'nai Yisroel Synagogue, it continues its religious life by hosting services on the second Friday of each month. Its work is sustained by a dedicated volunteer community committed to stewardship, memory, and ongoing congregational life.
