Central Christian Church is a historic Christian congregation in Hilo, Hawaii. Originally dedicated as the Portuguese Evangelical Church in December 1892 with 101 members, the church retains deep multigenerational roots, including members whose families helped build the church. The congregation describes its mission as preaching, teaching, and living the truth of Scripture with an emphasis on loving God, loving one another, and loving the world. Worship is presented in a quaint historic setting with contemporary worship, relevant messages, and an openness to the work and gifts of the Holy Spirit. The church building was altered in 1930 to add a pastor’s office, choir loft, kitchen, and classrooms, which were completed in 1931.
