Chùa Hải Vân Hayward is a beautiful and serene Buddhist temple, offering a place of peace, reflection, and spiritual community in Hayward, California. The temple grounds are truly magnificent and thoughtfully designed to inspire devotion and tranquility. In the front courtyard, visitors are welcomed by a statue of Maitreya Bodhisattva, while the right courtyard enshrines a statue of the Three Bodies of Avalokiteshvara Bodhisattva, installed on October 27, 2019. At the heart of the temple, the solemnly decorated Buddha Hall houses a statue of the Buddha in meditation upon a lotus pedestal.
The temple is more than a place of worship—it is a gathering place for spiritual learning and fellowship. On December 9, 2019, the temple was honored to welcome Venerable Thich Phap Hoa, abbot of Truc Lam Monastery in Canada, who visited during his Buddhist mission in Northern California. Before a large gathering of Buddhists from Hayward and surrounding cities, he shared teachings on the theme of "Saving the Dead and Saving the Living."
During his Dharma talk, the Venerable offered the reflection, "Which comes first, death or tomorrow?"—a reminder to practice the righteous Dharma with diligence and sincerity. Drawing from the Dhammapada, he encouraged all present to "Do not commit evil deeds; diligently do good deeds; purify the mind," as the path toward peace and liberation. The lecture and Q&A session concluded in a warm spirit of spiritual fellowship and shared joy among all who attended.
At Chùa Hải Vân Hayward, all are welcome to visit, worship, and find a moment of calm. Whether you come to admire the sacred statues, join in communal practice, or simply seek a quiet place for reflection, the temple offers a heartfelt invitation to nurture the mind and spirit on the path toward peace.
