Alameda Center for Buddhist Meditation is a nonprofit meditation center in Alameda devoted to Samatha meditation, a disciplined breath-based practice that trains attention through a structured, progressive method. Rooted in the Theravadin Buddhist traditions of Southeast Asia, the center emphasizes the cultivation of a calmer, brighter, more stable, and more purified mind through gradual development of concentration. Its approach presents meditation as rigorous yet welcoming and accessible to anyone regardless of belief. Managed by the California Samatha Association and directed by the Samatha Foundation of North America, the center offers classes and activities free of charge and is supported entirely by voluntary contributions.
