Benevolent Buddhist Temple is a Brooklyn Buddhist temple devoted to the transmission and practice of orthodox Buddha-dharma. Its religious life is grounded in the Tripitaka—the sutras, monastic discipline, and treatises—alongside esoteric scriptures, with an emphasis on disciplined cultivation through study, ritual observance, and compassionate service to sentient beings. Led by Abbot Master Shi Chi Chuang, the temple centers communal practice on recorded Buddha-dharma discourses, Buddha Dharma assemblies, the Guan Yin Great Compassionate Empowerment Dharma Assembly, release ceremonies for worms and fish, and commemorative rites for deceased people and animals. The temple is defined by fidelity to the rules of Sakyamuni Buddha, reverence for lineage, careful observance, and the cultivation of bodhicitta within communal practice.
