Ann Arbor YMCA is a long-established civic institution in downtown Ann Arbor with roots dating to 1904. In 1956, the YMCA and YWCA merged to form the Ann Arbor YMCA, shaping the organization in its current form and broadening its community role. Its residential component expanded in 1991 from 37 to 100 single rooms for men and women, reflecting its capacity to serve wider community needs. After purchasing 400 West Washington in 2002, the organization opened its current Ann Arbor facility there on April 1, 2005.
