The Fifth Line approaches movement as an integrated practice rather than a collection of separate exercise systems. In its Brooklyn studio, Pilates, the Gyrotonic® Method, Alexander Technique™, and TRX are woven into a cohesive style of instruction shaped by how the body actually moves in daily life. The emphasis is on coordination, strength, and adaptability, with sessions designed to support functional movement patterns instead of isolating one muscle group or method at a time. That philosophy gives the work a notably broad reach.
Training can serve straightforward conditioning goals, but it also extends into more targeted therapeutic support and movement work geared toward healthy aging. The common thread is a thoughtful, practical use of technique: building resilience, improving the quality of movement, and helping clients develop strength that carries beyond the studio. Rather than treating wellness, rehabilitation-minded work, and fitness as separate categories, The Fifth Line brings them into the same conversation.
The teaching environment is intentionally boutique, with a compact schedule of group classes alongside personalized instruction. Small classes preserve the energy of shared practice while leaving room for close observation and adjustment, and one-on-one sessions allow for even more tailored guidance. That balance between intimacy and structure gives the studio a distinct rhythm—focused, attentive, and responsive to individual needs.
Instruction is led by founder Janine Flasschoen together with Sarah White-Ayón, with faculty described as specialists in the methods they teach. Their combined approach reflects a studio culture grounded in expertise and careful adaptation, where movement education is meant to be both precise and usable. The Fifth Line is less interested in rigid adherence to any single discipline than in drawing from multiple traditions to create intelligent, individualized work.
