Jersey City Community Church grew out of a partnership between members of a central New Jersey congregation in Somerset and Chinese Christians living in Jersey City, with the fellowship taking shape before September 11, 2001. From its beginnings, it has been rooted in the life of a Chinese-speaking community whose experience spans long-established local residents, newcomers building lives in the region, and professionals whose work carries them into New York City and surrounding business centers. That mix gives the church a distinctive character.
Its congregation includes people working in fields such as banking, accounting, law, software engineering, consulting, and management, alongside more recent arrivals from China who have come not only to a new country but, in many cases, in search of faith itself. The church’s life reflects both realities: the pressures and pace of professional life in the metropolitan corridor, and the deeply personal spiritual questions that often accompany migration, transition, and new beginnings. At the center of the church’s message is the conviction that Jesus’ death on the cross and resurrection open the way to a renewed and abundant life for all people.
That belief shapes a ministry focused on introducing Christ, responding to spiritual need, and nurturing healing and renewal. The emphasis is not merely on belief as an abstract idea, but on transformation—on faith as something that reaches into daily life and reshapes it. The congregation also carries a transnational dimension.
Among those who gather are recent arrivals from China whose Christian commitments often extend beyond Jersey City, influencing family relationships and spiritual life overseas. In that sense, the church functions as both a local community and a point of connection in a wider story of faith, migration, and renewal. Main Sunday worship is held at 11:15 a.m.
