Emanuel Jacob Congregation is a Jewish congregation in Mansfield, Ohio, shaped by a philosophy of tradition and modernity. Its roots trace to 1870, when a few Jewish families established Temple Emanuel, and later community efforts helped develop a unified congregation. The congregation seeks to reach both newcomers to North Central Ohio and people not yet engaged by its programming. Morah Nancy Shimer serves as spiritual leader and has long been involved as a service and song leader, including co-leading High Holy Day services for 10 years with Rabbi Emeritus Michael Oppenheimer before his 2017 retirement. The congregation’s Cook Road building was dedicated in 1958, when members of B’nai Jacob moved from a house into the then-modern facility.
