K'nesseth Israel Synagogue is a historic Jewish congregation in Baytown, Texas, organized in the early 1920s. Its brick synagogue building was completed in 1930 and was designed by Houston architect Leonard Gabert; the site bears a Texas Historical Commission plaque recognizing the original design. The congregation has operated without a rabbi since the 1950s and relies on lay leadership for worship. It continues to hold Friday services, currently on the first Friday of the month, along with High Holy Day, Purim, and other holiday services. Members have sustained the synagogue through volunteer-led services, maintenance, and rebuilding efforts, including restoration of its community building after Hurricane Ike in 2008.
