Congregation Beth Israel is an Orthodox congregation in Malden, Massachusetts. Founded to provide a spiritual home for new immigrants from Lithuania, it later served refugees and survivors who settled in Malden. In the early 1960s, the congregation rented a house on Maple Street in Malden’s West End as it responded to shifts in the local Jewish population. By 1992, the congregation had purchased a 15-passenger van to transport children to Jewish day schools in the Brookline area, and its membership had begun to grow under recognized Torah-observant leadership.
