Havurat Tikvah is a lay-led Jewish Reconstructionist congregation in Charlotte, founded in 1988 as a fellowship of about 15 families. The congregation offers Shabbat services, a full spectrum of holiday observances, and religious educational options for families and single adults. It describes itself as a warm, supportive, and nurturing community built on active member participation, with no permanent rabbi or professional staff directing programming. After 11 years as an independent organization, Havurat Tikvah affiliated with the Jewish Reconstructionist Federation in 1999; in 2018, that movement became Reconstructing Judaism.
