Yodega Yoga Studio approaches yoga as more than a workout. Its ethos is rooted in the idea that practice can bring relief to both body and spirit while also opening into something larger: a way of living shaped by love, ritual, community, and curiosity. That perspective gives the studio a tone that feels both grounded and expansive, honoring yoga not only as physical discipline but as a fuller personal practice. The teaching sensibility behind Yodega reflects a path back to yoga as a central calling.
After a corporate layoff in November 2022, Kara Harrison used the turning point to realign her work with a lifelong passion. Having practiced in studios across Chicago since moving to the city in 2005, she went on to earn her 200-hour yoga teacher certification in March 2024, building on a relationship to movement that was already deeply informed by her background as a professional dancer and teacher. Yoga had long served as a way to understand the body more deeply and steady the mind; over time, it became something even more essential.
That combination of movement fluency and philosophical engagement shapes the studio’s style. Kara is also certified in Barre and Prenatal/Postpartum Yoga, and her classes are envisioned as dynamic experiences that draw together pranayama, mantra, asana, and meditation. There is clear respect here for the physical power of practice, but just as much for the reflective side of yoga: the inward attention, the questions it raises, and the individual relationship each student develops with it over time.
Yodega also carries a palpable sense of family. Studio assistants Sona Harrison and Elias Harrison are part of its daily life, reinforcing the warm, personal character of the space. Altogether, the studio reflects a living practice rather than a fixed formula—one that invites exploration, honors tradition, and makes room for each person’s unique experience on the mat.
