First Congregation Sons of Israel is a multi-generational egalitarian Conservative synagogue in St. Augustine, Florida, rooted in Jewish tradition and practice. The congregation emphasizes inclusiveness, accessibility for those unable to worship in person, and a warm, spiritual approach to High Holy Days and other Jewish holiday celebrations. Founded under the leadership of Rabbi Jacob Tarlinsky and his wife, Dora, the synagogue was dedicated in 1923, with its first service held on March 30, 1924. The sanctuary includes historic stained glass windows installed in 1958, and it reopened in late August 2018 following restoration and hurricane damage repairs. The community also supports modern Jewish life through spiritual connection, Jewish education, and a sense of belonging.
