Meghan Schmit Acupuncture and Herbal Medicine brings together acupuncture, Chinese herbal medicine, nutritional guidance, and practical lifestyle modification in a treatment style centered on restoring balance and supporting overall well-being. The work reflects a classical East Asian medicine foundation while remaining attentive to the everyday concerns that bring patients into care, with therapies chosen to address imbalance in a measured, individualized way. A defining thread in the practice is Chinese herbal medicine.
Schmit continues advanced study in Canonical Chinese Herbal Medicine with mentor Stephen Bonzak of the Chicago Institute of Classics of East Asian Medicine, an international herbal training program known for its distinguished focus. That ongoing study complements formal board certification in both acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine through the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine, as well as licensure in Illinois. Clinical experience has also shaped a strong emphasis on musculoskeletal concerns.
Extensive training under David Vavrinchik at NorthShore University HealthSystem’s Integrative Medicine Program helped deepen that focus, grounding the practice in hands-on work with pain and structural dysfunction. Acupuncture is accompanied, when appropriate, by adjunctive therapies such as cupping, which may follow a treatment session or be used on its own. Schmit’s academic training includes a Master of Science in Traditional Oriental Medicine from Pacific College of Oriental Medicine.
Across the practice, that education, clinical rigor, and continued mentorship come together in care that is both traditionally rooted and practically applied. The emphasis is not on a single modality in isolation, but on using acupuncture, herbal teas, diet, and lifestyle measures in concert to help patients move toward steadier health.
